(Oct 03, 2013, (SuperSport))--Ethiopia has declined a request by Egypt to play a friendly in Cairo. Supersport.com can reveal that Egypt sent a request to have the match played at home but on the other hand Ethiopia requested if the same game could be played in Addis leading to a deadlock.
A source at the federation who sought anonymity told supersport.com, "I can confirm Egypt requested Ethiopia for a friendly but due to the insecurity and uncertainty in the country we could not accept t he offer but when we requested if the same friendly could be played in Addis they were not also ready to travel."
"We have to take care of the safety of our players that is why we could not accept the offer though this does not mean we don't respect Egypt," the source told Supersport.com. Read more from Super Sport »
