(12/6/2011, Israel, Arutz Sheva)--The Knesset Immigration and Absorption Committee received data Tuesday by which the percentage of Ethiopian suicides between ages 15-45 is 5-10 times higher than that of the general population. Committee Chairman MK Danny Danon was shocked by the numbers.
“This terrible phenomenon must be stopped with resource allocation and proper absorption of the Ethiopian immigrants in Israel."
Committee Chairman substitute MK Avraham Michaeli (Shas) pointed out that “400-500 Israelis commit suicide every year, a phenomenon claiming more lives than car accidents.
The absurdity is that 400 Million NIS are allocated to accident prevention, but the budget for suicide prevention is barely 5 million NIS.”
