Ethiopia, Sudan keen on deepening relation

(September 17, 2011 (Addis Ababa, ENA)--Sudanese President, Omar Al Bashir asked Ethiopia to further bolster efforts for sustainable peace in Sudan.

The president made the request while holding talks with PM Meles Zenawi in Khartoum on Friday. The President expressed his country’s keen interest to open up a new chapter in its relations with Ethiopia.

PM Meles also conveyed Ethiopia’s interest to strengthen existing relations with Sudan.  The two leaders have exchanged views on the current developments in Sudan.

PM Meles met Omar Al Bashir while was heading to Egypt for the three day official visit. During his stay in Cairo, Meles is expected to hold talks with Head of the Higher Military Council in Egypt, Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi as well as with his counterpart, Essam Sharaf on bilateral as well as regional issues of common concerns.

He is also anticipated to discuss with members of the business community in Cairo. The two sides are supposed to conclude an agreement that is believed to transform existing bilateral trade and investment relations to a higher level.

The two parties would also confer regional issues of common interest including current developments in Sudan, South Sudan and Somalia, according to a report filed by the Ethiopian Radio and Television Agency.
