Ministry set to enhance capacity building through technology transfer

Addis Ababa, March 21, 2011 (Addis Ababa, ENA) - Science and Technology State Minister, Mehamuoda Ahmed Gaas said government is undertaking capacity building activities in the construction of huge infrastructure facilities to be launched in the coming five years through technology transfer.

Speaking at the inauguration of soap bar cutter, produced by Modern Industrial Automation Company here on Monday, the state minister said locally manufactured cutting machine will assist the country’s import substitution strategy and to save the foreign currency that the country allocated to buy similar machines.

Inventor of the machine, Semir Adem on his part said the computerized machine will cut five tons of bar of soap per hour.

Importing the machine was costing the country over 800,000 Birr, he said, adding, his company would sale the machine for only 380, 000 birr.

He urged government to continue supporting the sector in order to encourage import substitutions.

It was noted that the ministry would strive to facilitate the integration of higher learning and research institutions with the industry sector to apply science and technological services.
