Sudanese Firm To Export Malaysia's Cooking Oil To Ethiopia

(PUTRAJAYA, June 19 (Bernama) - Dermaga Resources Sdn Bhd, a Sudanese company based in Malaysia, is negotiating with local cooking oil manufacturing firms to sell palm oil-based cooking oil products to Ethiopia in East Africa.

"Ethiopia offers great business opportunities that can be further explored by Malaysian companies," said Managing Director Suliman Kuku Hamid.

Suliman, who has been residing in Malaysia for the past 17 years, said his company exported goods like cocoa powder, palm oil-derived cooking oil and furniture from Malaysia to countries like Sudan and Libya.

"For palm cooking oil, our suppliers are Alami Vegetable Oil Products Sdn Bhd and Delima Oil Products Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Felda Palm Industries Sdn Bhd," he told Bernama when met after the opening of the 9th Langkawi International Dialogues (LID 2011) by Prime MInister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak here today.

Suliman said about three to four containers, each worth US$28,000, are exported every three to four months. According to the African Development Bank, Ethiopia is one of the fastest emerging economies in the African continent, with Gross Domestic Product (GDP) likely to grow by 10.9 per cent in 2010-2011.

He said that it was important to have smart partnership between Africa and Malaysia, especially in trading so that companies like his could focus more to further explore the African market for food products such as oil and rice.

Dermaga Resources is incorporated in Malaysia since 2003 as a trading and services company. Besides Malaysia, its sourcing countries are India, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, South America and Europe.
