Islamic Development Bank to grant 16 mln USD to Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, March 21, 2011 (Addis Ababa) - Islamic Development Bank (IDB) said it will grant a 16 million US dollars support to Ethiopia's development endeavor over the next ten years.

Speaking at the 4th Community Development Workshop for Africa - Eastern Region held here on Monday, IDB Community Development Specialist, Mamoon al-Azami said the support would be given to speed up social and economic activities in the country.

He said the bank will also continue its support in the area of capacity building.

Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council President, Sheik Ahmedin Abdulahi on his part said the council in collaboration with IDB has undertaken various development activities including international scholarships to over 300 Ethiopians since the 1990s.

The workshop is aims at building the capacity of Muslims with a view to enabling them contribute share to ongoing development in the country.

Experience sharing and presentation of research papers is among the agenda of the four-day workshop held under the theme ‘Implementing Projects and Programs for Development’.

Speaking at the workshop, Middle East Affairs Director with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Tekleab Kebede said the participation of all segments of the society in all spheres is vital.
