Addis Ababa, March 8, 2011 (Addis Ababa) - A bill capable of attracting private investment and transferring technology in the health sector has been formulated, the Ministry of Health said.
The bill can help fill in gaps of laws hampering the development and expansion of health care services in the country, Health State Minister Dr. Kebede Worku told a workshop held here on Monday to discuss the bill.
DR. Kebede said some health care services could not be expanded by private investors and health professionals because of the gaps in the laws.
He said citizens with chronic illness were forced to go abroad seeking treatment when in fact they could have been given the service here locally.
Many investors and health professionals have been requesting the government to introduce such treatment services supported by appropriate technology.
Dr. Kebede said there was no legal framework that could allow the private sector to introduce and expand abstract treatment.
Thus, he said, it was with an objective of addressing such problems that the bill was designed.
