Addis Ababa, March 24, 2011 (Addis Ababa) - The Peace and Security Council of the African Union welcomed the positive evolution of the situation in Egypt since its 260th meeting held on 16 February 2011, AU said.
According to a statement AU sent to ENA on Thursday, the Council at its 268th meeting held here on Wednesday was briefed by the Commissioner for Peace and Security on the evolution of the transition in Egypt.
The Council welcomed the constitutional referendum and the arrangements being made for the holding of presidential and legislative elections in September and October 2011.
The Council encouraged the Egyptian authorities and parties to preserve in their efforts to complete the transition.
