(Jun 22, 2013, (kick off))--Days after Ethiopia admitted to fielding an ineligible player in a recent 2014 World Cup qualifier against Bafana Bafana, KickOff.com can reveal that FIFA has opened a probe against the player who allegedly spat in the face of Dean Furman.
Furman reported he was on the receiving end of an attack from Ethiopian player Addis Hintsa, whom he accused of spitting at him following a midfield duel in the match Bafana lost 2-1 away to jeopardise their chances of qualifying for next year's World Cup.
An outraged Furman took to his Twitter account and called on FIFA to probe the incident he described as the worst violation he has suffered in his career. KickOff.com can reveal that the world football governing body has opened preliminary investigations into the alleged incident that happened at the National Stadium last Sunday.
“We are currently analysing the alleged incident and trying to gather relevant information,” FIFA said in response to enquiries from KickOff.com. An official added: "We cannot comment fully for the time-being. We are checking internally and will come back to your publication as soon as possible.” Read more from Kick off »
