(30 Dec 2011,( Reporter))--Fisseha Tadesse, the man who on September attacked his former wife, leaving her blind in both eyes, received 14 years in prison.
The sentencing took place on the morning of December 30, 2011 and raised an outcry from people in the courtroom amongst whom were the victim's family and relatives. Many remained on the court grounds protesting what they saw as the leniency of the court in sentencing.
Some told The Reporter that this sentencing will have an adverse effect on the deterrence of violence against women in Ethiopia. It is recalled that Fisseha was found guilty of attempted murder and unlawful weapon possession for his attack on Ethiopian Airlines hostess, Aberash Hailay.
