The UN Security Council will send a mission to Ethiopia, Sudan and Kenya to deal with the peace and security issues in the region on Thursday, said a note to correspondents issued by United Nations spokesperson's office on Wednesday.
"The council delegation will first travel to Addis Ababa in a visit headed by Ambassador Gerard Araud of France," said the note. "While there, the council mission will discuss a range of African issues with officials of the African Union."
Additionally, they will also meet with Prime Minister Meles Zenawi of Ethiopia.
"The mission will then travel onward to Sudan, where they will congratulate the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) parties and the people of Sudan for a peaceful and successful referendum," said the note.
That particular section of the trip will be led by American Ambassador to the UN Susan Rice and Russian Ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin, said the note. The team will also visit the UN Mission in Sudan (UNMIS).
The last stop will be Nairobi, capital of Kenya, where the council mission will discuss broad issues relating to Somalia, said the note. "It is envisaged that the mission will meet with senior Kenyan government officials."
For that part, Mark Lyall Grant, British ambassador to the UN and Baso Sangqu, South African ambassador to the UN will lead the portion.
The mission will return to New York on May 26.
