Speaker stresses need for prioritizing security, democracy, dev’t issues in E. Africa

Addis Ababa, April 18, 2011 (Addis Ababa,ENA) - House of Federation Speaker, Kassa Teklebirhan stressed the need to prioritize peace, security, democracy and development in East Africa, the House of Federation told ENA in a press release on Monday.

While addressing the 124th Inter Parliamentarian Union (IPU) Assembly held in Panama City on Monday Kassa governments should give prime attention to terrorism, piracy, and instability around the horn,
The speaker briefed participants about the current situation of Ethiopia.

He said peace, development, good governance and autonomy of nations and nationalities have been entrenching in Ethiopia.

Kassa called up on member countries and partners of Ethiopia to support the effort being exerted to curb problems of peace and instability in East Africa.

The Speaker urged all parliamentarians to extend support to the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia.

The 124th IPU Assembly underway in Panama City since April 15, 2011.

The House said the speaker held discussions with various parliamentary delegations.

The Experience of Ethiopia, host country to the 120th IPU Assembly, was presented in the session, the House said.
