Super Eagles new discovery Joel Obi has been praised to high heavens by Ethiopia coach, Iffy Onuora for his sterling performance in Sunday’s African Cup of Nations qualifier.
The Nigerian-born coach told reporters after his side was given a 4-0 hiding by the Super Eagles in the Group B fixture that Obi is brilliant player. He described the Parma midfielder as a major discovery by Nigeria and a big star in the making for the Eagles.
“That guy is damn too good. I like his ball sense. Nigeria has got a future in him. He can win balls and vary his passes to his target. I must congratulate Nigeria for discovering him,” Onuora said.
While he conceded that the pounding in the hands of Nigeria was demoralising, Onuora promised that the Eagles would not find the reverse group fixture easy when they visit Addis Ababa on June 5.
Nigeriacurrently trail Guinea by one point after the West Africans played out a 1-1 draw with Madagascar in Antananarivo in the other group fixture of the weekend.
“The Eagles played good football, the type of stuff you can only see in the English Premier League. Our defeat is demoralising.
The players are down because we did not expect a heavy bashing in Abuja . But we hope to make amends when the Eagles come to Addis Ababa .
They will find a different side and must put in extra efforts and work hard when they come visiting. You can be rest assured that is what will happen.”
