GCAO stresses need for women to actively participate in implementation of GTP

Addis Ababa, March 8, 2011 (Addis Ababa) - The Government Communication Affairs Office (GCAO) stressed the need for women to actively participate in the implementation of the five-year Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP).

Speaking in connection with the International Women's Day (March 8) here on Tuesday, GCAO State Minister Alemayehu Ejjigu said participation of women is significant in the ongoing efforts to maintain good governance and also speed up development in the country.

Alemayehu said women should participate in organized manner towards success of the GTP.

Women have significantly contributed share in particular during the struggle against the Derg Regime, he said, adding, their participation is key to bring about rapid development in the country.

Alemayehu said no plan can be achieved without ensuring participation of women.

Women's Affairs Coordination Head with the Office, Misrak Sinishaw on her part said women have played significant role during the struggle for independence and also in building democratic system in the country.

The Day is marked for 100th time across the world and for 35th time in Ethiopia.
