Ethiopia sees first 2011 partial solar eclipse
APA-Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) The first partial solar eclipse of 2011 was on Tuesday seen in few parts of Ethiopia , including in the capital city Addis Ababa from 10:43 Am to around 12:25 AM, Ethiopian Space Science Association said here.
The Ethiopian Space Science Association said that the eclipse was seen in north European countries and few African states.
Libya and Gabon also saw the partial eclipse in Africa while the full eclipse was seen in the majority of European countries.
However, people here in Addis Ababa were not aware about the eclipse saying that they were not informed in advance.
“I didn’t notice what you are asking me. It was like cloudy this morning. This is what I remember, but didn’t know it was solar eclipse or not,” Mesfin Mekuria, a resident of Addis Ababa, told APA.
Like Mekuria a good number of people did not observe the incident, except hearing the news later on.
In January 2010, Ethiopians witness one of the longest solar eclipse (8min.) that travelled across several African countries.
The 2010 annular solar eclipse was reported to be the longest to occur since 1992.
