ADDIS ABABA, Jan 4 (BERNAMA- NNN-ENA) -- The Ethiopian capital's Bole International Airport is developing its domestic terminal into a regional hub for eight East African airlines, including Yemeni airlines, says its General Manager, Hailay Gebretsadik.
He told journalist here Monday that the terminal was being set aside for East African airlines in a move to ease the air traffic congestion at the airport.
He said owing to nation's rapid economic growth, the number of passengers handled at the airport had been increasing by 20 per cent every year.
The airport had renovated the domestic terminal at a cost of 130 million Birr for the cause, he added.
Ethiopian Airports Enterprise Communication and Public Relations Head Womdem Teklu said the airport handled more than 42,000 aircraft a year and the ever increasing number of flights was making the airport a global hub.
The airport is expected to service to more than 48,000 aircraft this Ethiopian year, he added.
Wondem said shifting East African airlines to the domestic terminal would ease the traffic congestion at the main terminal and enable the airport to offer better quality service.
Passengers from Sanaa, Khartoum, Juba (Siuth Sudan), Malakal, Nairobi, Mombasa, Djibouti, Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, Kilimanjaro, Bujumbura, Entebbe and Kigali will use the domestic terminal, he added.
