(June 20, Addis Ababa, ERTA)--Mesfin Industrial Engineering (MIE) on Saturday inaugurated an assembly plant for Addis Car in collaboration with Geely International Corp, the China based manufacturer of Geely cars.
The plant is located on the same premises as Mesfin Industrial’s truck assembly plant in Mekelle Town, 780km north of Addis Abeba.

The company that used to assemble trucks like the Russian made Kamaz would now be assembling Geely cars too for the domestic market.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, MIE General Manager, Getachew Ekubay noted that the Company is playing its share in developing the nation's industry sector.
He said the automotive industry, which is the leading industrial sector, has the potential to create countless jobs.
According to Getachew, the Company undertook different measures and researches to establish the assembly plant.If finally inked an agreement with the Chinese Geely International Corp to launch production.
He said working in partnership with such a well-known company would help MIE improve its production and meet market demands.Representative of Geely International Corp, Daniel Tong said his corporation is happy to have the opportunity to work in Ethiopia.
State Minister of Industry Tadesse Haile for his part said the factory would play a pivotal role in the industrial transformation of the country through enhancing the development of micro and small enterprises.
Up on going full operational, the newly inaugurated plant would have the capacity of assembling 800 vehicles per year.
MIE PLC has been producing and supplying dry and liquid tanker lorries and electromechanical machinery, among others.
