(Sep 05, 2015, (Vancouver))--A Vancouver drone store has released surveillance video showing what appears to be a brazen thief stealing a clerk’s wallet and passport from right under her nose.
Yabsera Aklilu, assistant manager of Drones Plus on West 4th Avenue near Pine Street, said she was closing up the store shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday when a man walked in and asked to use the phone. “He said he was locked out of his car and needed to call somebody, and that his dog was locked in the car,” Aklilu told Metro. “I just wanted to help him out.”
On the video, Aklilu can be seen dialling a number the man provides her. While he is on the phone and Aklilu is distracted, he can be seen reaching over and grabbing her wallet. He then rifles through the wallet before placing it in his pocket. After hanging up the phone, the man continues to make small talk with her before leaving the store.
About 10 minutes after he left, Aklilu said she noticed her wallet was gone. When she reviewed the surveillance video footage, she said she was stunned by what she saw. “It’s just shocking,” she said. “It’s shocking to see that happen. When he came in, he looked like a dad. He doesn’t look sketchy or anything.”
Aklilu, who is from Ethiopia and staying in Canada on a work visa, said she is devastated because her passport was tucked inside her wallet. Read more from Metro News »
