(Addis Ababa October 29/2012)--The fifth National Flag Day has been celebrated across the country with various assortments on Monday under the theme “Hoisting Our Flag up: We will Realize the Renaissance Charted Out by Meles” The public has expressed their commitment to redouble efforts towards the realization of national vision charted out by the late PM Meles Zenawi.
Here in the capital, the Day was marked at national level with presence of government, military officials, diplomats, heads of states, religious leaders and thousands of residents of Addis Ababa where they took oath before the Flag to contribute their share towards speeding up ongoing development.
Guest of Honor, Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen on the occasion said the national flag has a special meaning in maintaining and handing over the constitutional and democratic values to generations. Demeke said the celebration of national Flag Day is a manifestation the new Ethiopia moving towards renaissance.
He called on the entire public to intensify efforts in maintaining fast and sustainable development. The deputy premier said government is committed to improve the livelihoods of urban dwellers by creating jobs and making towns habitable. On the occasion, Flag Day National Organizing Committee Chairperson and House Peoples Representatives Speaker Abadulla Gemeda said celebration of the Day has been contributing in building national consensus on development and democracy.
He said the country has registered tangible achievements over the past 21 years under the meticulous leadership of Meles. Abadulla calls for concerted efforts of all citizens to pull out the country from abject poverty. The Ethiopian National Anthem was played and the national Flag hoisted during the event.
