(08 MAR 2012, AGI, Rome)--More than 140 Italian and Ethiopian businesses and 220 individual participants took part in the second day of the Ethiopia-Italy Trade & Investment Forum in Rome yesterday.
With some 250 B2B meetings, the meetings were hosted by the Italian Foreign Ministry and by Confindustria premises in Rome, with a view to consolidating bilateral ties and furthering investment opportunities in Ethiopia. The morning's events - jointly organised by Confindustria, the Foreign Ministr, Unido and Assafrica & Mediterraneo - were also attended by an Ethiopian delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn.
The Deputy PM showcased investment opportunities and development plans in Ethiopia. Confindustria's small businesses division chairman Vincenzo Boccia said "we are here today with some 100 Italian businesses, testifying to Italy's interest in Ethiopia" Boccia went on to say "Italy wishes to share its know-how and skills with Ethiopia and there are some 200 Italian businesses-mostly small and medium-sized - that have chosen Ethiopia as their operations base."
The main areas of interest for Italian businesses are textiles, faming and agriculture, chemicals, suede and leather, pharmaceuticals, mining, infrastructure and energy.
