(December 1, 2011 (Addis Ababa, ENA)--Ethiopians residing in Netherlands contributed nearly 1.2 million Birr for construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam at a ceremony organized to celebrate the Ethiopian New Year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The Ministry told ENA on Thursday that Ethiopian Ambassador to European Union, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxemburg, Dr. Kassu Ilala on the occasion said reliable energy supply is significant to realize the renaissance of the country.
Dr. Kassu also briefed the Ethiopians on significance of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam to fulfill the increasing demand for power in the country, the ministry said.
The event was organized in the Ethiopian Embassy in Brussels, according to the Ministry.Ethiopia has its own calendar, which is nearly eight years behind the Gregorian calendar.
