(Dec 2, 2011, NAJRAN)--A Saudi wife and her teenage daughter have mysteriously disappeared from their home in the southern city of Najran just under a fortnight ago and their whereabouts are still a mystery, local Arabic daily Al-Watan reported Thursday.
The husband Jaber bin Yazeed, who lives in the Al-Fahd district, did not suspect any foul play in their disappearance but said an Ethiopian housemaid might have caused the two to leave home using black magic.
Police spokesman First Lt. Abdullah Al-Ashwi said Najran police could not confirm reports that the woman and her daughter were kidnapped and had surfaced in Ethiopia.
“The police is still conducting intensive investigations into the case,” he said. The spokesman said photos of the 30-year-old wife and daughter, 13, were circulated among all police stations in the Kingdom to help in the search.
The husband denied any marital problems that might have driven the wife to leave home and said the family had accidentally found out about a year ago that their Ethiopian housemaid was trying to cast a spell on the wife.
“I deported the housemaid but she was able to escape from Jeddah airport. She called asking us to rehire her but I refused,” he said.
Bin Yazeed and his wife have five sons and four daughters. He said Samiyah, who disappeared with her mother, was the second eldest. “I am now totally confused. There were no differences between me and my wife to make her leave home,” he said.
