Deputy PM Hailemariam discusses with Ethiopian Diasporas in the US

(14th of October 2011, ENA)--Deputy PM and Foreign Affairs Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn held discussions with Ethiopians and Ethiopian health professionals living in Washington DC, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The discussions were aimed at raising awareness of Ethiopians on the Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP) and overall socio-economic activities of the nation. Hailemariam said the GTP would help address basic problems of the country and enhance efforts to bring about transformational change in the country, according to the office of the spokesperson of the Ministry.

He said huge infrastructure development is underway in the nation and the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is one of the projects the government has given due attention.

The Deputy PM said various local sources contributed some seven billion birr and purchased bonds for the noble cause. He expressed the need for the Ethiopian Diasporas to respond to the government's call for the same cause.

Similarly, during discussions with health professionals, the Deputy PM called on the professionals to take part in the health sector in their homeland. Hailemariam pledged government’s support for any constructive engagement.

On the occasions, the Ministry said the Ethiopian Diasporas and the health professionals have expressed readiness to participate in socio-economic affairs of the country.
