Mozambique probing case of missing Ethiopian athletes

(Sep 15, 2011, Maputo)--Mozambican police and migration authorities are investigating the disappearance of a group of 15 athletes from Ethiopia, who were here to take part in the 10th All Africa Games, since Monday.

The Games Organising Committee deputy director, Penalva Cesar, confirmed at a press conference that the 15 athletes from Ethiopia were reported missing by the chief of the delegation himself Monday.

Mozambique News Agency AIM reported that the case was initially taken to the security organising sub-committee.

Penalva said that wherever the athletes are staying, their Games identification and entry visa would be valid until the last day of the Games, Sep 18, and after that period other means will be used.

"If they do not appear until Sunday, the last day of the 10th All Africa Games, their entry visas will also expire, they will be in a condition of illegality which entails a criminal situation," said Cesar.

The Games Organising Committee accredited over 20,000 people, among them 4,982 athletes from foreign countries.
