EPA)--ADDIS ABABA - The Addis Ababa City Administration Council said Addis has finalized its preparation to colourfully celebrate the 4th National Flag Day which will be marked on the 26th of September under the theme: “The National Flag and Grand Renaissance Dam Are Our National Pride”.
Deputy Speaker of the City Council Yerga Degu told a press conference yesterday that the National Flag Day will be celebrated to memorize martyrs and the nations, nationalities and peoples of Ethiopia who sacrificed their lives for peace, development, democracy and equality.
Moreover, he said, the new generation is expected to follow suit by defeating the country's main enemy- poverty and pass down the National Flag to the next generation. “We will celebrate the National Flag Day by ensuring the participation of the public in the on going development through huge mobilization” he said.
He said the national flag reflects the common will, belief and vision of the nations nationalities and peoples of the country. The celebration showcases the common values of Ethiopians and various activities that beef up these common values will be undertaken. Discussions will be held on common development agendas, he added.
The Deputy Speaker also noted that the City Administration has established a committee comprising the City Council, the Office of the Mayor and youth and women federations to organize the celebration. He further said that public mobilization activities will be undertaken on the occasion to successfully achieve the GTP and the construction of the Grand Renaissance Dam.
Yerga indicated that the panel discussions will focus on global experience and the importance of Flag Day celebrations, historical background of the National Flag, the struggles of the peoples of Ethiopia for freedom and the values of the Constitution and the National Flag. Yerga noted.
The Deputy Speaker also said that the day will be marked in different areas of the city including 116 woredas, 10 sub cities, various schools and government institutions. Over one million people from different segments of the society are expected to participate in the discussions, he noted.
