(August 29, 2011,Addis Ababa, ENA)-- More than 400 Ethiopians living in Las Vegas have contributed over a million Birr for construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told ENA on Monday.
According to the Office of Spokesperson of the Ministry, the stated sum was solicited at a fund raising program organized in the Las Vegas. Besides, the ministry said more than 422,000 Birr has been pledged to contribute and to buy bonds for the same purpose.
On the occasion, Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam Construction Coordination Committee Chairperson, Bahiru Alebachew said the construction of the Dam is pride for all Ethiopians at home and abroad.
Consul General of Ethiopia in Los Angeles, Ambassador Zerihun Reta, who was a guest of honor at the event, on the occasion said launching of construction of the Dam indicates beginning of renaissance of the country.
