(July 08, 2011, Addis Ababa, ertagov)-Prime Minister Meles Zenawi said Britain's development assistance to Ethiopia contributes significantly to speeding up development, as it is compatible with the country's development plan.

Meles held talks on Friday with British Foreign Secretary, William Hague. According to a senior official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who attended the meeting, Meles and Hague exchanged views on issues of mutual interest including the current situation in the Horn of Africa region.

Meles told Mr. Hague the ongoing economic cooperation between Ethiopia and Britain contributes significantly to strengthening the development endeavors of the former.

Hague for his part noted Ethiopia has been registering rapid economic development over the past years.

He expressed Britain's commitment to supporting Ethiopia in its efforts to bring about sustainable development.

Hague also held discussions with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hailemariam Desalegn.

Britain has made a decision enabling it to provide development assistance worth £300m for Ethiopia, Hague told Hailemariam.
