Committee expresses readiness to host Int’l Conference of African Writers

Addis Ababa, April 29, 2011 (Addis Ababa, ENA) - Organizing Committee of the International Conference of African Writers said preparation has already been completed to hold the conference successfully next Monday.

In a press conference held here on Friday, the committee said the event will take place from 02 to 04 May 2011 in Addis Ababa and Regional States in connection with the 50th Golden Jubilee of the Ethiopian Writers' Association (EWA).

The International Conference will be held under the theme: “From the Independence of the Continent to the Liberation of the Mind: the Unfinished Journey”.

The committee said more than 30 renowned authors and academicians from Africa and around the world will participate in the event.

Over 46 research papers will be presented on the occasion, it said.

The conference will create opportunities for the continent to promote its unique diverse culture and languages.

The Committee said the participants will discuss with students of 11 higher learning institutions and also visit development activities being undertaken in the country as well as tourist sites.

The EWA, Academy of Ethiopian Languages and Cultures, Institute of African Studies and Pan African Writers' Association's co-organized the Conference.
