Addis Ababa, March 28, 2011 (Addis Ababa, ERA) - Diplomatic and political activities Ethiopia is undertaking representing Africa in global fora are bringing dignity and recognition within the international community, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
In an exclusive interview with ENA here on Monday Ministry's Spokesperson, Ambassador Dina Mufti said that Ethiopia’s role in Africa ranges from peace and stability to environmental issues.
He said among Ethiopia’s internationally recognized roles are the part played for the peace and security in East Africa. It includes Ethiopia’s effort to bring peace and security in Somalia and to strengthen the country's Transitional Federal Government .
He said Ethiopia also played its part to maintain peace and security and also contributed to the Peace keeping efforts in Burundi and Rwanda, among others.
According to him, when dealing with African issues, the international community wants to discuss with Ethiopia.
Due to the roles that Ethiopia is playing in the continent in various regional organizations such as the Inter-Governmental Authority for Development, the international community now sees Ethiopia’s development and democracy in a positive light, Ambassador Dina said.
Concerning environment, Ethiopia played a very important role to voice African interest in the G8 and G20 fora, the Spokesperson said, adding, that makes the country very influential.
Developed nations have started to consider Africa as a partner due to efforts exerted by Ethiopia, he said.
Ethiopia’s effort to represent African interest in the G8 and G20 has brought about fruits, he said.
According to him, the developed nations would give 30 billion US dollars over the next three years and 100 billion US dollars until 2020.
