EPRDF regular session concludes

Addis Ababa, March 28, 2011 (Addis Ababa) - Regular session of the Ethiopian Peoples' Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) evaluated mid-term performance of the Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP) .

The office of EPRDF Council told ENA here on Monday that the session, which began last Saturday, has put in place directions to further enhance success of implementation of the GTP.

Accordingly, encouraging direction is put in place in the rural development sector to provide integrated support to farmers.

The session stressed the need to further enhance natural resource protection, basin and irrigation development, among others, during the remaining months with a view to further strengthening the sector.

The ongoing support and incentive being provided to farmers and private investors in the agriculture development sector will further be strengthened as it has been registering encouraging result.

Concerning urban development micro and small-scale enterprises are focal point to the GTP, it said, adding, the detailed strategy put in place will create conducive situation towards development of the sector.

The council agreed that finding solution to rent-seeking at all levels would be central through organized participation of the public.

It said utmost efforts were being exerted to bring about change in the education system and expand the education service coverage.

The efforts exerted to improve higher level education management system , to ensure the quality and relevance of education have been registering commendable results.

The session also evaluated performance of implementation of civil service reform programs. The ongoing efforts to speed up development in the country through improving public services and preventing rent-seeking have brought about encouraging changes.

Efforts being exerted to improve in particular systems of tax collection, urban land administration and business activities have been registering encouraging results, it said.

The session concluded after approving recommendations on issues related to political and organization affairs of Ethiopians living in foreign countries and proletarians and also discussing on other current affairs.
