Kenya police arrested twenty-one Ethiopian men in an operation on illegal aliens in Nairobi’s Pangani area at the weekend.
Police said the aliens did not have papers to warrant their stay in Kenya and that they will appear in court today to face charges of being in the country illegally. The men were found in a house days after they had arrived from their country.
They confessed to have come by road from Moyale and they were on their way to South Africa. Nairobi PPO Anthony Kibuchi asked all illegal immigrants in Nairobi to register with authorities as required.
Up to 3,000 aliens are arrested in the country annually in police operations.
In Mombasa, police said they have arrested two suspects and recovered Sh300,000, which was part of Sh5 million that was stolen from a forex bureau on Friday.
Five gunmen walked into the bureau-cum-mobile phone shop and escaped with the money.
Police said the men posed as customers before one of them drew a gun and demanded the money.
Urban OCPD Rop Kipkemoi said they suspect an inside job in the incident but they are still looking for more suspects. There were speculations some of the suspects had escaped to Nairobi after the incident.
