UN Chief Arrives in Ethiopia for AU Summit

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Saturday arrived at the African Union (AU) headquarters in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to attend a meeting on the New Partnership of Africa's Development (NEPAD), ahead of the 16th AU summit scheduled for Jan. 30-31.
Upon departure from New York, Ban said development, climate change and achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) will be the priorities of the summit.
Ban is expected to address the opening ceremony of the summit on Sunday.
The summit, to be held under the theme "Towards Greater Unity and Integration Through Shared Values," will gather heads of states and governments from AU member states to discuss issues including Africa's integration as well as peace and security, among others.
The political crisis in Cote d'Ivoire, the unrest in Tunis and Egypt, the post-referendum development in Sudan as well as the situation in Somalia are expected to top the agenda of the discussions.
