(Aug 23, 2013, (Austin ))--First came the rejection of Canada, now comes the joking from Sen. Ted Cruz about his citizenship.It was discovered earlier this week that the Texas Republican, born in Calgary, holds dual citizenship in the United States and Canada.
Cruz, who is often talked about as a potential presidential candidate, says he'll do whatever is necessary to renounce his Canadian citizenship because "as a U.S. senator, I believe I should be only an American." During an appearance Thursday in Austin with tech executives, Cruz promised reporters as they were being escorted out of the room that he wouldn't make headlines in their absence.
"I promise that while y'all are out I'll try not to give any like really juicy piece of crazy news," Cruz is quoted as saying by Peggy Fikac, an Austin reporter for the San Antonio Express-News and Houston Chronicle. Then he added as a kicker: "I am secretly a citizen of Ethiopia."
