(Aug 14, 2012, Addis Ababa)--The London Olympics ended Yesterday (August 12) after 17 days of eventful competition between athletes of the world. Ethiopian athletes stunned the world with dazzling finish in middle distance running.
In London Olympic Games medal table, Ethiopia finished 25th with three gold, one silver and three bronze medals. Ethiopia stood second in Africa next to South Africa and 5th from the world in Athletics. Tirunesh Dibaba, who won double gold in women’s 5,000 and 10,000 in Beijing Olympic four years before was in her best form in the London Olympics too. She won gold in women’s 10,000 and bronze in 5000.
Meseret Defar, winner of gold in Athens Olympics, won gold in the distance with magnificent win. Tiki Gelana, winning the Women’s marathon brought the third gold to Ethiopia. Sofia Assefa in 3000 steeplechase and Tariku Bekelle also won bronze in the London Olympics.
The last medal was Dejen Gebremenskel 's bronze in men’s 5000. In the London Olympics , Mohammed Aman and Abeba Aregawi have shown to the world that Ethiopia has promising athlets in short distance races.
