(July 14, 2012, Ministry of Foreign Affairs)--Ethiopia’s Ministry of Communications and Technology plans to open a US$45 million information-technology park next year. The manager for the project, Berhanu Keleta, said the project is intended to attract computer-related industries to take advantage of the country’s low-wage human resource.
The government hopes to attract businesses including call-centers and computer hardware assembly plants to the park, which will have Internet speeds of as much as 40 gigabytes a second.
“The objective is to develop an information communication technology industry by providing a conducive environment,” said Ato Birhanu.
The Chinese firm ZTE, second-largest maker of phone equipment in the world, is already building the telecommunication infrastructure on a 200-hectare facility on the outskirts of Addis Ababa.
