(Nov 27, 2011, Arutz Sheva) The government decided Sunday to build a memorial to Ethiopian Jews who died on their way to Israel.
Many of those who died as Ethiopian immigrants made their way to Israel in the early days of their immigration came on foot, and were buried on the way. The memorial, which will be set up on Mt. Herzl, will include the names of those who died.
A committee to determine those names will be set up, and will be headed by MK Michael Eitan, the decision said. The memorial will be officially unveiled on Jerusalem Day next year.
The NIS 2 million project will be funded by the Prime Minister's Office, the Immigration and Absorption Ministry, the Jewish Agency, and the Ministry of Sport and Culture.
