Ethiopian Cement Factories slash Prices

(Nov 28, 2011, (Ethiopia)--Ethiopian cement factories, Mesobo and Mugher, have slashed their cement prices because of an increase in production as a result of the expansion projects undertaken by the factories.

The new prices for Mugher Cement in Addis Ababa are 278 birr and 350 birr for OPC type. Mesobo PPC cement will sell for 200 birr and OPC will sell for 280 birr.

Ato Elias Kifle, Director of Mugher project Directorate said that the factory’s production capacity was enhanced by the use of modern technological processes.

The expansion has increased the production of Mugher cement to 2.2 million tons from 870,000 tons, while production of Mesobo has increased to 2.2 million tons from 850, 000 tons previously.

Mugar and Messobo cement factories had earlier requested the Ethiopian government to stop importing cement by claiming that their cement factories could produce enough cement to cater to the local demand.
