Dr Fisseha Tekle-Wold passed away

(Tuesday, October 11, The Washington Post)--Fisseha Tekle-Wold, 70, an Ethiopian-born physician who had a private pediatrics practice at Washington Hospital Center, died Sept. 17 at a hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She had septic shock, said her son, Yared Belai.

Dr. Tekle-Wold, a Bethesda resident, opened her practice at Washington Hospital Center in 1978 and later expanded to a second office in Silver Spring. She was a practicing physician until her death while on vacation in Ethiopia.

Fisseha Tekle-Wold was born in Addis Ababa and was a 1963 graduate of what is now Addis Ababa University. She studied medicine at the American University of Beirut for two years before finishing her medical degree at Addis Ababa University in 1967.

She moved to the Washington area after completing her pediatric residency at New York University Medical Center. Dr. Tekle-Wold contributed to churches and orphanages in Ethiopia.

Her marriages to Belai Abbai and Tesfa Guma ended in divorce. Survivors include three sons from her first marriage, Yared Belai of Washington, Caleb Belai of Los Angeles and Abbai Belai of London; a brother; and two sisters.
