(August 02, 2011, Birmingham) --Death of friend prompts Birmingham woman to provide medical equipment for hospital.
THE DEATH during childbirth of a beloved friend ten years ago so affected health professional Jennifer Simpson that she has devoted much of her time since to organising vitally-needed medical equipment for an Ethiopian hospital.
Jennifer, who has worked as a surgical care practitioner for the past 15 years at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals, is determined to raise £20,000 to build a clinic in Shashamane, Ethiopa, the country where her friend died.
And along the way on her journey, she has experienced much kindness and help – from donations of medical equipment to offers of free storage space.
The initiative is part of a larger project called Sick Be Nourished, a charity that has organised a series of recorded songs to be used to raise funds.
But Jennifer’s journey began a decade ago after her friend 41-year-old Yainka Mawuli died after going into respiratory arrest following the birth of her fourth child.
“I will never forget leaving the hospital with Yainka’s baby, then having to go home to tell her other three children that their mother was dead,” explains Jenny, who has five children of her own. Read the full story at The Voice »
