MPs Protest Ethiopian Dam

(10 August 2011, Nairobi) --Parliament now wants the president and Prime Minister to push the Ethiopian government to stop the construction of the massive Gibe 3 hydropower dam on River Omo.

Emuhaya Mp Wilbur Otichillo who sponsored the motion said 300,000 Kenyans would be negatively affected by the project.

The MP argues that Lake Turkana stands to lose three quarters of its volume because of the project and wants an environmental and social assessment carried out.
