(August 26, 2011, Addis Ababa, ENA) - A medical team from the Israeli humanitarian group known as “Eye from Zion” will perform free eye surgeries for needy Ethiopian from Semptember 1-10, 2011.
A press statement sent to ENA by the Israeli Embassy in Addis Ababa on Friday, the team will also provide training to medical professionals residing in Gondar and Debrak towns. The team will also focus on cataract and oculoplastic surgeries in both towns.
It said the volunteer team consists of specialist doctors, nurses and is traveling with advanced equipment, medical supplies and a mobile operating center, among others. According to the statement, in addition to delivering medical assistance, the Israeli team members will come here as good will ambassadors.
Israeli Ambassador in Ethiopia, Oded-Ben, and Global Director for JDC’s International Development Program, Judy Amit and officials from the Ethiopian Ministry of Health will accompany them, it said.
The mission is primarily supported by the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) in partnership with the Israeli International Agency for Development Cooperation (MASHAV), the statement noted.
