(August 06, 2011CAPE ELIZABETH) --Azeha Kiros of Ethiopia won the women's race in the TD Bank Beach to Beacon, completing the 6.2-mile course in 32 minutes, 8.7 seconds.
Kiros, running in her second Beach to Beacon, pulled away from the lead pack of female runners around the three-mile mark, and was able to maintain her lead despite Jelliah Tinega's attempt to cut down a 20-meter gap past the five-mile mark.
Tinega, of Kenya, finished second in 32:35.5, while Ethiopia's Buzunesh Deba was third (32:35.5), Burundi's Diane Johnson fourth (32:43.7) and Australia's Benita Willis fifth (33:15.3).
Race officials said Deena Kastor, who holds the American women's marathon and half-marathon records, did not run this morning because of an illness.
