Over 100 illegal Ethiopian immigrants arrested

(Monday, July 25 , Nairobi)-  Ethiopian immigrants were on Monday charged for being in the country illegally at Nairobi's Makadara court.

The 116 aliens however could not take plea due to language barrier as they could only hear Amharic.

The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Esther Ngure applied for another mention date to have the courts’ executive officer look for an interpreter.

The immigrants had been arrested at a house in BuruBuru phase one in a single house where they were all locked in.

Makadara Principle Magistrate Mrs Teresia Murigi gave a directive that they be remanded until today when they will be produced in court.

Incidents of aliens locked in a house by human traffickers have become rampant especially in middle and upper class houses.

This comes only a few months after tens of others were arrested at a house in Ngong in the outskirts of Nairobi.
