Volcano erupts in Teru district, Afar region of Ethiopia

(June 15, 2011, Addis Aaba, ENA)- A volcano has erupted in Teru district of Afar region of Ethiopia Sunday night, around 21:30 hour.

Loud explosions were heard over 100 kms away in neighboring districts of the Afar and Tigray regions.

The volcanic ash covers part of the Afar region including the capital, Samara as well as Mekelle town.

People in the area are advised by authorities to cover their mouth and nose against the ash.

No damage and causality has been reported yet.
