(April 29, 2011, almasryalyoum)--An Egyptian “popular diplomacy” delegation arrived in Addis Ababa on Friday morning for a four day visit, during which it will meet with Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, President Girma Wolde-Giorgis and other top officials.
The delegation is composed of 48 political and party leaders, including January 25 youth activists and potential presidential candidates Wafd Party President al-Sayyed al-Badawy, Karama Party President Hamdin Sabahi and Judge Hesham Al-Bastawissy, and media figure Buthayna Kamal.
The delegation also includes writer and Democratic Front Party Vice President Sikina Fouad, former MP Mohamed Abul Ghar, who is a member of the board of trustees of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party, Wafd Party leader Alaa Abdul, founding Kefaya member George Ishaq, poet Sayyid Hegab and ambassador Abdul Raouf al-Ridy.
A number of January 25 youth activists including Ziyad Al-Ilimy, Saly Toma, Amr Ezz, Bassem Kamel and Mohammad Arafat are also making the trip.
Ethiopian Ambassador to Egypt Mahmoud Dardir is accompanying the popular delegation. A large celebration featuring traditional Ethiopian folklore troops was organized in Addis Ababa airport to welcome the group.
Ethiopian Minister of Culture and Tourism Daoud Mohammad Ali, a number of Ethiopian government officials, Egyptian Ambassador to Ethiopia Tarek Ghoneim, Egyptian Consul Mohammad Abdul Rehim and members of the Egyptian diplomatic corps and expatriate community also greeted the group.
