Addis to host Int'l Conference for African Writers

Addis Ababa, April 5, 2011 (Addis Ababa, ENA) - Addis Ababa City will host International Conference next month for African Writers and others, who wrote about Africa, conference organizing committee said.

The committee said at a press conference here on Tuesday that the event will take place from 02 to 04 May 2011 at the United Nations Conference Center under the theme: “From the Independence of the Continent to the Liberation of the Mind: the Unfinished Journey”.

Committee Chairperson, Dr. Mulugeta Seyoum on the occasion said the conference will create opportunities for the continent to promote its unique diverse culture and languages.

The participants will discuss on the growth of the continent, he said, adding, the conference will also bring possibilities for Ethiopia to promote itself.

Some 40 Research papers and works of art including Ethiopian manuscript will be displayed and discussed during the conference, the Chairperson said.

Dr. Mulugeta said the participants will discuss with higher education students of 11 universities and also visit development activities being undertaken in the country as well as tourist sites.

Renowned authors and academicians from Africa and around the world including Europe, the U.S.A and Russia will participate in the event.

The Ethiopian Writers Association, Academy of Ethiopian Languages and Cultures, Institute of African Studies and Pan African Writers' Association's co-organized the Conference.
