(April 22, 2011, Addis Ababa, ENA)--The second session of the Committee on Development Information Science and Technology (CODIST II) will be held here at the United Nations Conference Center from 02 - 05 May 2011 under the theme: “Innovation for Africa’s Industrial Development”.
According to a statement ECA sent to ENA on Wednesday, CODIST II will promote innovation for the industrial development of the continent by realizingAfrica ’s opportunities.
Over 500 delegates from member states, private sector and exhibitors are expected to discuss and explore the extent to which African countries have harnessed innovation to enhance industrial development on the continent and to advice the Economic Commission forAfrica .
Director of the Information Communication Technology, Science and Technology Division, Aida Opoku-Mensah said
CODIST II seeks to generate recommendations that aim to help member states create globally competitive industries as well as viable businesses which can generate millions of jobs inAfrica .
A major highlight of CODIST II is the 2011 Technology in Government in Africa Award Ceremony slated for 02 May 2011.
Besides the recommendations expected from CODIST II, the meeting will also raise awareness about the importance of innovation in industrial development, formulate new guidelines to develop and strengthen innovation systems among African countries.
The meeting will also promote communication and exchange of knowledge and review the progress achieved on the recommendations and actions of CODIST-I, among others.
CODIST is a statutory Committee that meets on a biennial basis. It is composed of science and technology, information and geoinformation specialists who are also government officials from ECA’s member states.
