Mumbai, Feb 7 (IANS) A Mumbai magistrate Monday remanded an Ethiopian and 14 Somali pirates to judicial custody for seven days.
The pirates, who had jumped off their mother ship after it was destroyed by the Indian Navy Jan 29, were brought to Mumbai Jan 31.
The pirates were arrested and charged with attempt to murder, kidnapping and rioting with deadly weapons and for violating the Passport Act.
The pirates had attempted to board and attack a Bahamas flagged vessel which sent out an SOS alerting the Indian Coast Guard and the Indian Navy.
