(Feb 24, 2011, ABC Australia)--The Chapel is claimed by both the Egyptian Coptic Church and the Ethiopian Church. The dispute began some 350 years ago when the Egyptians allowed Ethiopian monks into the chapel as guests.
February 1994 - In the Holiest of cities you would expect peace and goodwill towards all men. Not so.In Jerusalem even some of the Christian sects are at war with each other. One dispute involves the ancient and sacred Chapel of Four Bodiless Living Things.
The Chapel is claimed by both the Egyptian Coptic Church and the Ethiopian Church. The dispute began some 350 years ago when the Egyptians allowed Ethiopian monks into the chapel as guests.
They never left and later invited themselves into the monastery next door as well. The Ethiopians say that the Chapel is now theirs and claim they even held the deeds - until the Egyptians burnt them.
That was in 1838. In 1970, to consolidate their claim, the Ethiopians waited until the Egyptians were attending mass at another church and promptly changed all the locks.
The Israeli High Court has ruled that the chapel belongs to the Egyptians but Israel is reluctant to enforce the decision for fear of causing offence. Ethiopia has a sizeable Jewish population. Love thy neighbour indeed.

There is no doubt that the Ethiopians are the rightful owners. This was a settled matter before the rebirth of Israel but later, not disappoint their only "Arab friend", they rued for the Egyptians despite the mountain of evidence. Following the outcry of justice loving people, the Israelis decided to keep a kind of status quo allowing the Egyptians to stay in the place they took while they were guests to the Ethiopians and, the Ethiopians maintain what they are left with. THAT is the FACT.
I am Egyptian glad to say we love and respect our Ethiopian friends, hope we have better relationships and good understanding of each other in the future. Problems appear when someone don't understand the other well the CHURCH should make us friends not enemies. There are numerous accounts by foreigners attesting the Ethiopian's presence and possessions in this Church.
I believe we have more in common than differences. If we go to war, will not fight. its the common man who suffers on behalf of "the rich and famous". hopw we can start talking positive things here that will bring Ethiopian up to Egyptian standard.
Go girl Safe… one lacer guided Ak 47 rifle for me if Egypt attack ha ha ha ha
