Pakistani Taxi driver gets five years for raping Ethiopian passenger

(Jan 11, 2011, DUBAI, The National)--A 27-year-old taxi driver was jailed for five years yesterday for raping a female passenger. The Pakistani driver, BK, picked up HM, an Ethiopian maid, as she left her sponsor’s house on the way to a police station.

HM testified that she noticed the driver was taking her to a remote spot in Ras Al Khor. BK stopped the car in a sandy area and told the woman to have sex with him and when she resisted he raped her, prosecutors said.

HM told investigators that her attacker then drove her to the Naturalisation and Residency Department in Al Aweer. Before she got out of the taxi, they began fighting, which led to the driver’s arrest.Forensic reports presented in court supported the rape allegation.

BK told the Criminal Court of First Instance that the incident on March 23 last year had been consensual.The driver will be deported after serving his jail term.
